About Emin

What the project is building, what carries over from the published work, and the honest state of the entity behind it.

The premise

Financial exclusion is not a shortage of technology. It is a shortage of institutions that people can both reach and trust. Emin Coin is being built for people the banking system leaves out, on principles that make speculation and interest structurally impossible rather than merely discouraged.

The design work behind it — the settlement model, the consensus mechanism, the tokenomics — is published in three papers that anyone can read and disagree with. That is deliberate: a financial project that cannot be argued with has not disclosed enough.

The problem, as documented

Billions of people remain underserved by the financial system. The ecosystem exists to give them access to ethical financial products through a Fiqh-compliant network.

Lightpaper · p.3 · v2.2

An estimated 2.2 billion people remain underserved in emerging economies, up from 1.8 billion recorded in 2017.

Lightpaper · p.4 · v2.2

Figure is dated to the source document. Presented with its date, never as a live statistic.

Financial exclusion by region: Middle East and Africa 50%, South and Central America 38%, Eastern Europe and former Soviet republics 33%, Asia Pacific 24%.

Lightpaper · p.6 · v2.2

Cited barriers include account cost, distance to branches, excessive documentation, lack of trust, lack of privacy, unpredictable fees, identification problems, and the absence of Fiqh-compliant products.

Relationship to the published papers

The Whitepaper, Lightpaper and Greenpaper were supplied by the project owner, who has confirmed rights to reuse them. They are published here exactly as supplied, under their original branding.

They have not been rewritten to say Emin. Editing a published paper to match a new name would misrepresent what was originally published, and would destroy the reader's ability to check the document against any other copy of it. Reissued Emin editions are a launch requirement, tracked in the document centre.
